Sonoran Desert National Monument
The Monument contains magnificent examples of untrammeled Sonoran Desert landscape. It is the most biologically diverse of the North American deserts, and the monument captures a significant portion of that diversity. Within the monument is the extensive saguaro cactus forest, three distinct mountain ranges, three Congressionally designated wilderness areas and many significant archaeological and historic sites, and remnants of several important historic trails.
The park and surrounding area are known for its unique geological significance, outstanding and varied desert growth, and historical importance. The park offers a visitor center, a playground, historical markers, a campground and picnic areas. Many hiking trails traverse the desert landscape and offer hikers both scenic and challenging hikes.
